Filipino Spaghetti [Take 1]

What makes Filipino Spaghetti different from traditional spaghetti? Three ingredients: banana sauce, hotdog slices, and melted shredded cheese. The banana sauce may sound a little weird to those who are unfamiliar with it, but it’s basically just a sweeter version of ketchup. What is the sweetness like? Hmm…maybe like sweet and sour sauce, except more mild? Not really haha.

I substituted a few ingredients in this dish to make it healthier: I used whole wheat pasta instead of refined, ground chicken instead of ground beef, fat-free mozzarella cheese instead of cheddar, and veggie dogs instead of meat hot dogs. I don’t recommend using veggie dogs unless you really have to, because the taste is much different. Just use traditional hot dogs. :p

Ingredients Used:

  • Whole wheat spaghetti pasta, 16oz (1 box)
  • Onion, 1/2, diced
  • Garlic, 3 cloves
  • Ground chicken, 16oz
  • Lightlife veggie hot dogs, 4 hot dogs sliced into 1/2 inch thick slices
  • Bertolli tomato & basil pasta sauce, 24oz
  • Jufran banana sauce, to taste
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Dried thyme, to taste
  • Fat-free mozzarella cheese

Notes For Next Time:

  • Use regular hot dogs instead of veggie dogs
  • Season with regular ketchup and dried oregano
